William Nicholls has worked for over 20 years in various fields, including ocean and ecosystem assessment, rural sector income diversification, and environmental assessment pathways involving diverse stakeholders. Over the last decade, he has represented Hitachi STS as a mission-critical systems assessment expert at the Operational Control Centre of Hong Kong's MTR system.

In the Asia Pacific, he consults and lobbies with a policy focus on forest dependant communities concerning remote sensing data's impact on forest governance. He graduated as a Master of Science from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London in Development Studies specializing in the Trade of Virtual Water and Environmental Law. Over the last ten years on regular assignment, he founded Canopy Watch running workshops on Accurate Accessible Empowerment, on the islands of New Hanover and New Ireland in Papua New Guinea.
